1. What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies

Cookies are small text files placed on your computer, smartphone, or other device when you visit a website. They act as a short-term memory for the website, allowing it to recognize your device and remember basic information about your visit.

In addition to traditional cookies, EDUCareM uses a few similar technologies to ensure our website runs smoothly:

  • localStorage and sessionStorage: These are web storage technologies that allow our website to store data locally on your browser. Unlike cookies, this data isn’t automatically sent to our servers with every request, making it a faster and more secure way to manage your browsing session.
  • Responsive Images: While not a tracking technology, we use dynamic image loading techniques that detect your screen size to serve the appropriately sized image. This ensures our site loads quickly and doesn’t waste your mobile data.

We use these technologies strictly to provide you with a seamless, secure, and functional browsing experience.

2. How We Use Cookies

Below is a detailed breakdown of the cookie categories we use (and those we don’t).

2.1 Strictly Necessary / Essential Cookies (Always On)

Essential cookies are required for our website to function properly. They handle basic tasks like page navigation, security, session management, and remembering your privacy preferences. Because the website cannot function without them, they cannot be switched off in our systems.

Legal Basis: We process these cookies based on our legitimate interest in operating a secure and functional website, and where applicable, contractual necessity to deliver the website to you.

| Cookie Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|—|—|—|—|
| pvc_visits[0] | First-party | Set via HTTP response header to count unique visits and ensure site stability. | 1 days |

2.2 Functional Cookies (With Consent)

Functional cookies enable a website to provide enhanced functionality and personalization, such as remembering your language preferences, embedding videos, or running chat widgets.

Legal Basis: Consent.

We do not currently use functional cookies.

2.3 Analytics & Performance Cookies (Consent Required)

Analytics cookies help website owners understand how visitors interact with their site by collecting and reporting information anonymously.

Legal Basis: Consent (under UK GDPR/EU GDPR) or Legitimate Interest with opt-out (in certain US jurisdictions).

We do not currently use analytics and performance cookies.

2.4 Marketing & Advertising Cookies (Consent Required)

Marketing cookies are used to track visitors across websites. The intention is to display ads that are relevant and engaging for the individual user, often involving cross-site tracking and retargeting.

Legal Basis: Consent.

We do not currently use marketing cookies.

3. Third-Party Cookies & Services

Many websites use third-party services (like embedded video players or social media feeds) that set their own cookies on your device.

Because we prioritize a privacy-first approach for our visitors, EDUCareM does not currently use any third-party services that set cookies on our website. The only cookie present on our site is the first-party essential cookie listed in Section 2.1, which is managed directly by us.

4. Do Not Track & Global Privacy Control

We believe you should have ultimate control over your privacy. EDUCareM actively monitors for and respects automated privacy signals sent by your browser.

  • Global Privacy Control (GPC): YES. We honor the GPC signal. If your browser broadcasts a GPC signal, our website treats this as a valid, binding opt-out of any future tracking or data sharing. Honoring GPC is a legal requirement for visitors from California, Colorado, Connecticut, Montana, and Texas, but we apply this standard universally to all visitors.
  • Do Not Track (DNT): YES. We also honor the older Do Not Track header.

When our systems detect either of these signals, we automatically restrict any non-essential data collection. While we currently only use essential cookies (which are exempt from these opt-outs as they are required for the site to function), our infrastructure is built to automatically block marketing or analytics cookies from loading if these signals are present.

5. Your Cookie Choices

Because we currently only use a single, strictly necessary cookie, we do not feature a complex cookie consent banner. However, you still have full control over how cookies are handled on your device.

Browser SettingsYou can configure your web browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. Be aware that if you block our essential cookie, certain parts of the website may not function correctly, and we may not be able to guarantee a stable browsing experience.

You can find instructions on how to manage cookies for your specific browser here:

Industry Opt-Out LinksAlthough EDUCareM does not use marketing or analytics cookies, you may wish to opt out of third-party tracking across the wider internet. You can use the following industry tools to manage your preferences globally:

6. Cookie Duration & Data Retention

Cookies generally fall into two categories regarding their lifespan:

  • Session Cookies: These are temporary and are erased the moment you close your web browser.
  • Persistent Cookies: These remain on your device for a pre-defined period or until you manually delete them.

The only cookie we use (`pvc_visits[0]`) is a persistent cookie with a very short lifespan of 1 day. After 24 hours, it automatically expires and is removed from your device. We do not retain any personal data derived from this cookie beyond its 1-day expiry period.

You can clear existing cookies from your browser at any time by accessing your browser’s history or privacy settings and selecting “Clear Browsing Data” or “Clear Cookies.”

7. International Data Transfers

Because EDUCareM currently relies solely on a first-party essential cookie, all related data processing occurs locally on our servers located within the United Kingdom (UK) and the European Economic Area (EEA).

If we ever integrate third-party services in the future (such as analytics or hosting providers based in the US), any international transfer of cookie data will be strictly governed by UK GDPR and EU GDPR requirements. We ensure that any such transfers are protected by appropriate legal safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or recognized adequacy decisions (such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework).

8. Changes to this Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy periodically to reflect changes in our technology, legal requirements, or business operations.

If we make material changes—such as introducing new categories of cookies (like analytics or marketing)—we will notify you by posting a prominent notice on our website. Furthermore, if we add non-essential cookies in the future, we will automatically trigger a re-consent mechanism, asking you to explicitly opt-in before those new cookies are placed on your device.
